This is a stripper (cedar plank and epoxy) kayak built from Steve Killing's plans in Ted Moore's KayakCraft book. I bought it from the builder in Far Rockaway, NY. It is 17' long with a 23.5" beam and weighs 55 lbs. A careful builder using thinner planks and lighter fiberglass cloth with better epoxying technique could probably get the weight down to about 45 lbs. If anything, though, the extra weight of this particular boat probably contributes to its stability.

It has a real nautical feel. It paddles easily and tracks very well under normal conditions. Very stable. It tends to weathercock under strong crosswinds which implies the seat is a bit back of the balance point. As much as I dislike a rudder on a kayak, it would be a good addition to this boat if one were to use it for lengthy trips in open waters in windy conditions.

Regardless, the boat is a real eye-catcher and is very comfortable. A great boat for day outings or overnighters. Has enough volume to carry gear for longer trips too but that's out of the question for me at this stage of the game...
