As a beginner, I started off looking at 14' touring kayaks. I tried out the Jackson Journey (too slow), the Hurricane Tampico (too tippy) and the Venture Esky 15. At 6'4" with a 36" inseam, I needed a bigger boat. In a sea kayaking class I was in a Capella 166, which fit well and had speed also. The only trouble was trying to get it to go in a straight line! My instructor suggested I try the North Shore Atlantic. Once I had the footpegs at their furthest setting, I took off from shore.

All I can say is WOW! I've found my dream kayak. It tracks straight, has great speed and glides like no tomorrow. I put the skeg down for a couple minutes and turned on the power and started jamming down the lake. I understand why you want a longer kayak, the speed increases, and the effort decreases. This baby is now proudly hung in my garage, and I look forward to many happy outings
