In places like Resurrection Bay and Ketchimack Bay the ability of an expedition kayak to handle rough seas is a life and death issue; you can leave on glassy water and have 4 foot quare waves a little bit later with just a little wind blowing against a tidal current. The Northstar excels in stability; it's weight and durability are a real plus in a wilderness setting. This is an SUV of Kayaks, don't get it if you want a roadster. Do get it if you're going places where you will be on your own a long way from Port. PS: has the best seat/backrest of any expedition kayak on the market!
