Submitted: 05-24-2011 by SK I've been paddling my handbuilt mahogany West River 180 up and down the Maine coast, the Long Island Sound, the Hudson River, and various lakes, ponds, and streams throughout New England for 7 years now. The West River's long, narrow, lightweight multi-chine hull and low profile make it incredibly fast and straight tracking and resistant to weathercocking. I've paddled a lot of kayaks, and this one is my favorite so far. Maintenance includes sanding and varnishing every 2 years, and that's a pain in the neck, but it's worth it for the comments the boat gets wherever I paddle. |
