Ten years ago I paddled 3000 miles in a canoe. For a camera case, I used an old plastic tupperwear pickle barrel with the word 'worms' painted on the side. It worked pretty well.
The Sea Vault is a commercial adaptation of this idea. The 6X7" inch container has a very 'easy access' screw top lid which easily accepts a SLR with a wide to standard zoom lens... The foam padding not only protects the camera from impact and shifting, but also provides a layer of insulation, keeping the barrel from sweating. Around the inside the Sea Vault is a pocket and velcro divider for extra's such as a wallet, cell phone, compact camera and rolls of film.
The screw top lid has tether points making it ideal for WW canoeing. The Sea Vault will also fit inside a 7" hatch on a sea kayak. There are external D rings so you can add a shoulder strap and use the Vault as a camera bag for island exploration. It's a great piece of gear for anyone who paddles and photographs simultaneously. |
